An investigation was completed into a complaint alleging that the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) failed to respond to multiple 911 calls concerning a man sleeping in a tent on the grounds of an elementary school.
After reviewing the Findings Report, the Inspector General found that OPS did not comply with Ontario’s Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 and related regulations.
To address the non-compliance, the Inspector General directed the Ottawa Police Service Board to provide additional policy direction regarding the prioritization of calls. The Chief of Police was further directed to develop operational procedures implementing that policy and provide the new or amended policy and procedure to the Inspectorate of Policing within 90 days.
