Inspector General Memo #12: Release of the Inspector General of Policing 2025 Annual Report

Each year, the Inspector General of Policing’s Annual Report provides an opportunity to reflect on the state of policing and police governance in Ontario, the challenges facing the sector, and the ongoing efforts to strengthen accountability and public confidence. I am pleased to share my 2025 Annual Report, Oversight in Action: Advancing Integrity, Accountability, and Public Confidence.

As required by the Community Safety and Policing Act, the Annual Report details how I have fulfilled my legislative responsibilities to independently oversee compliance and performance within Ontario’s policing sector, including complaints addressed, inspections conducted, directions issued, and other oversight activities carried out throughout the year.

The report reflects a year of continued growth and evolution for both the Inspectorate of Policing (IoP) and Ontario's modernized policing oversight framework. It also highlights the important contributions of the dedicated professionals at the IoP whose expertise, integrity, and commitment are central to advancing our mandate. I am grateful to the team at the IoP who work for the public good by supporting improvements to policing performance to make everyone in Ontario safer.

Thank you for your continued engagement, professionalism, and commitment to serving communities across the province. The perspectives, and experiences shared by police services and police service boards throughout the year have helped inform the insights and content reflected in this report. I look forward to continuing our work together in support of effective policing, responsive governance, and public trust.
