  • Investigation Number: 24-31

An investigation was conducted into a complaint alleging that the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Brant County Detachment failed to adequately address traffic safety concerns between September 2023 and May 2024. The complainant reported concerns about speeding, the use of engine brakes by trucks, and distracted driving.

After reviewing the Findings Report, the Inspector General concluded that the OPP complied with the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 and the Adequate and Effective Policing (General) Regulation.

The Inspector General found that the OPP's approach reflected an evidence-based model of traffic enforcement and community safety planning. The decision also commended the detachment for its engagement with the Brant Safe Streets Committee and its use of data-driven decision-making to identify local traffic safety priorities.

Outcome: Compliance with the CSPA and its regulations.
