A complaint was made to the Inspector General of Policing alleging that the Toronto Police Service (TPS) failed to adequately enforce the Highway Traffic Act in relation to cyclists at several intersections along Wellington Street West.

The Deputy Inspector General found that the TPS complied with the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 and its regulations. Records showed multiple enforcement initiatives, including directed patrols, community policing initiatives, and the issuance of tickets and warnings to cyclists and other road users. TPS also acknowledged that the outcomes of several complaints were not communicated effectively and advised that steps would be taken to improve communications with members of the public.

Outcome: TPS complied with the CSPA and its regulations
